SOUNDSCAPE 07 / RAINY LO-FI
Rain on the other side
The outside world can wait a little.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SOUND
It has rained since before dinner. The tree outside has lost its sharp edges, and a streetlamp drags a blurred line across the window. You gather the things on the desk until only a book and a cup remain. There was one more task you meant to finish today. Watching water follow the same track down the glass, you begin to wonder whether it can wait.
The melody seems to step slowly out of an older radio: warmer tones, a beat arriving a fraction later than expected, small gaps between chords. You return to the page you were reading. Instead of making yourself continue immediately, you set the bookmark between two paragraphs. Steam has left the cup, though the tea still holds its color.
Two drops begin descending together. One meets an existing water trail and suddenly moves faster. You watch them pass through the reflected light as if following a race with nothing to win. The phone on the desk brightens once and goes dark. Only when the melody turns a corner do you check it, and nothing there requires an immediate reply.
In the end you finish that page and leave the next one for another time. The rain gives no sign of stopping. The music returns to its beginning. Before bed, you add a small note beside tomorrow’s tasks: leave a little space. Then you wash the cup and draw the curtain halfway, letting the blurred light outside keep the room company a little longer.
